Headed to Phoenix mañana to join the good people at Rebel Disco’s Push Push, a weekly Wednesday soiree on the outdoor rooftop of Bar Smith downtown. Their bookings in 2013 have been stellar thus far & I expect they’ll continue down that path as the year unfolds. Not sure if either of these were inspirations in their naming the party what they did, but that’s not really that important, is it?

Another record collector friend of mine told me of this one just in time for summer: “save your dirty dollars & get an Onda”. Having no idea what he was talking about, I did I little digging & found the 12″ of this to be all but impossible to get & the LP it comes from just as scarce. Hailing from Brazil, Cassiano’s “Onda” (Portuguese for “Wave”) is what I have to believe to be his interpretation of a beautiful day by the sea. Let it wash you over a few times…

“This mix was recorded in 1998 at KROM which was Higher Source Records weekly they did. I was a huge John Howard fan and I was super stoked that I got to open for him that night. I think I had just turned 22 or something and It was my first time playing on 3 turntables. I remember when I finished, John came walking up with two shots and two beers, handed me one of each and said “what the fuck am I going to do now” That was my first time meeting John.

Two parties this week being played by the boys here in LA…first up Dance Right on Thursday night hosted by MFG & Mad Decent with Dirty Dave and A Club Called Rhonda‘s Goddollars then Full Frontal Disco on Saturday evening hosted by Mario Diaz with Goodtimes, Slash Fiction & Nelstar…both are staples of our fair town’s nightlife and always a damn good time.
Speaking of damn good times, Shriekback’s (Barry Andrews of XTC on synths & vocals with Dave Allen of Gang of Four on bass) tune from ’82 is just that…enjoy.
